Day 1
Welcome to the ELIR 2011 blog!
Our goal is to show all the interesting activities that take place during this international workshop. The theme of this year is: Giving lustre to the rust!
The host is the Technical University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
So, after a day full of arrivals (Sunday) it was finally time to meet everybody, to see the places, to start working. The schedule was really busy but worthed every second. Monday started with a welcoming presentation over the workshop, the activities and of course administrative details.
We were welcomed to this experience by the dean of the ABP Elphi Nelissen, by former dean Jan Westra and coordinating workshop teacher Irene Curulli.
North Brabant, the Netherlands is the area to be studied. More precisely five local cities that share one important characteristic: they have beautiful canals and industrial areas in need of revitalization: 'S Hertogenbosch, Helmond, Eindhoven, Tilburg and Breda.
Each of the 8 teams formed that morning traveled that day to see and experience the sites. The goal was to learn as much as possible about the place, the people, the traditions, the needs of those places so that latter a more thorough analysis could be done.
Of course all these experiences had to be expressed, put in thoughts, lines, drawings and plans. High levels of concentration and a short but intense brainstorming session!
Each moment of the was used to learn more about the people around, about the places they came from, about what attracted them to this field. The dinner provided the relaxation for more personal communication.
Before calling it a day each team presented a short version of the process that took place that day. Some presentations were more detailed while others shorter and sometimes funny. The variation was welcomed and really expressed the character of a truly international workshop.
